Terms of Use

Last updated

These terms cover the website dirnex.app, the official builds of the Dirnex app, and Dirnex licenses. By using them, you agree to these terms. They are written to be read, so please do.

Who we are

Dirnex is made by Oleh Verkhohliad. “We” and “us” in these terms mean him. You can reach us at support@dirnex.app.

Dirnex is open source

The source code of Dirnex is public under the Apache License 2.0. You may use, change and share the code as that license allows, and nothing in these terms takes any of that away.

The name “Dirnex” and the app’s icon are not part of that license. They are our trademarks, so a copy you change and share must use its own name and icon. The trademark policy explains what is allowed.

Using Dirnex for free

Every feature of Dirnex works without a license, for as long as you like.

Official builds, the ones we publish on dirnex.app and GitHub, show no reminder for the first 30 days. After that, they show a short reminder that asks you to buy a license: when Dirnex starts, and once a day. A copy you build yourself from the source code never shows the reminder.

What a license is

A license is a key that removes the reminder from official builds. It doesn’t unlock any feature, because every feature is already there.

  • What it covers. A license covers every version of Dirnex released up to its end date, and it keeps covering those versions forever. The end date is one or two years after the purchase, depending on what you bought.
  • After the end date. Versions released after the end date show the reminder until you renew. Updates are never blocked, and Dirnex tells you before it installs a version your license doesn’t cover.
  • Renewing. A renewal costs the same as a new license. If you renew before the end date, the new period is added to the end of the current one. If you renew after it, the new period starts on the day you renew.
  • Who may use it. A license is for one person, on all of their own Macs. A team needs one license per person, which can be bought in a single checkout. Please don’t share your key or publish it.
  • No internet needed. Dirnex checks a license on your Mac. It never contacts a server to check it, and we don’t count the Macs you use it on.

We sometimes give licenses for free, for example to testers and reviewers. These terms apply to them too, with the end date they were given.

Buying a license

Licenses are sold by our reseller, Paddle.com. Paddle is the Merchant of Record for every order: it takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, sends the receipt, and handles refunds. Your purchase is also covered by Paddle’s terms for buyers.

  • Prices are shown on the Pricing page. The checkout shows the final price in your currency, with any tax, before you pay. A later change of price never affects a license you have already bought.
  • Delivery. Your license arrives by email right after the payment, with a link that activates it in Dirnex. If it doesn’t arrive, write to us.
  • Refunds. You can get a full refund within 30 days of a purchase, for any reason. The Refund Policy explains how.

When a purchase is refunded or charged back, its license ends. We mark it as revoked, so it can no longer be sent again or renewed, and you agree to remove it from Dirnex.

No warranty

Dirnex is provided “as is”, as the Apache License says, without any warranty. We work hard to fix every bug we learn about, but we can’t promise that Dirnex is free of errors or right for your purpose.

A file manager copies, moves and deletes files, so keep backups of the files that matter to you.

Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damage, or for lost data, profits or time. Our total liability for a license is limited to what you paid for it.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, or takes away any right you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in.

The website

The texts, pictures and design of dirnex.app are ours, unless stated otherwise. You may quote and link to them, but please don’t copy them in a way that could make people think you are us.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example when the store or the app changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. A change never takes away what a license you have already bought covers.

Law

If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you may take a dispute to the courts there.
