Everything Dirnex does
The power of a commander, with the manners of a Mac app. Every feature is free to use.
Two panes, one keyboard
Two folders side by side, and a key for everything you do between them. Tab switches panes, Space marks files and F5 copies them across.

Tabs
Keep several folders open in each pane.
Type to filter
Start typing, and the pane shows only the names that match.
Select by pattern
Mark every *.jpg at once, or invert what’s marked.
Go anywhere
⌘L takes a path, or a few letters of a folder you often visit.
Tree view
Show a pane’s folders as a tree when you need to see the whole branch.
Workspaces
Save your folders and tabs as a workspace, and come back to them later.
Keys you choose
Change the key of any command, or pick the Total Commander set, in Settings ▸ Shortcuts.
Every command, one search away
⌘K opens the command palette. A few letters find any command by name, and each one shows its key, so you learn the keys as you go.

Recent first
The commands you used last wait at the top.
Your own scripts
A shell script gets the marked files and runs from the palette or the function key bar. Templates help you start.
Files, handled with care
Copies and moves wait in a queue, so the window never freezes, and ⌘Z takes them back.
A queue with progress
Copies and moves run one after another. Pause one, or stop it.
When a name is taken
Replace, skip, keep both, or replace only what’s older.
Undo for files
⌘Z takes back a copy, a move, a rename, a new folder or a move to the Trash.
Instant copies
On an APFS disk, a copy is a clone: it’s made at once and takes no space until one of them changes.
Multi-Rename Tool
Rename many files at once with masks, counters and regular expressions.
Synchronize Directories
Compare two folders by date and size, or by contents, then copy what differs, either way.
Compare by contents
Open two files side by side in FileMerge, Kaleidoscope or BBEdit.
Checksums
Make and check CRC32, MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256 checksum files.
Get Info, in full
Permissions, owner, flags, dates, extended attributes and access lists, changed in place. For a file you don’t own, macOS asks for your password.
Edit in your own editor
F4 opens a file in the editor you already use. A file in an archive or on a server goes back where it came from when you save it.
Find Files
⌥F7 searches by name, contents and tags, with Spotlight’s help. Save a search to run it again from the sidebar.
What takes the space
Show folder sizes as bars, and leave out what Git ignores if you like.
See inside a file without opening it
⌃Q turns the other pane into Quick View. It shows the file under the cursor, and follows the cursor as it moves.

Code, highlighted
About 25 languages, in colors for light and dark.
Markdown as a page
Headings, tables, a table of contents, and Mermaid flowcharts and sequence diagrams, drawn as the author meant them.
Source or page
Switch HTML and Markdown between the source and the page it makes.
As big as you need
Quick View fills a pane, the window or the whole screen. Move through files with the arrows or a two-finger swipe.
Everything else
Pictures, PDFs, video and anything else Quick Look shows. Select text to copy it.
Servers and clouds are folders
Connect once from the sidebar. Then browse, copy, move and edit as you do on your Mac.
SFTP, SMB, FTP and FTPS
Passwords stay in your Keychain. An FTPS certificate is trusted by its fingerprint, never by turning the check off.
Amazon S3
And storage that speaks S3: Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi and MinIO.
iCloud Drive, as in Finder
Apps’ folders are where Finder shows them, and a file kept only in iCloud downloads when you open it.
Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Box
Their folders, with each file’s sync status beside its name. Google Docs open in your browser.
iCloud Photos
Your photo library as folders of years and months, and your albums, with the original files to copy out.
From anywhere to anywhere
Copy, paste and drag between your Mac, a server, an archive and a cloud folder.
Archives and vaults
Open an archive like a folder, send files under a password, and keep private ones locked away.
Archives as folders
Open zip, 7z and tar archives (with gz, bz2, xz or zst) like folders. Copy files out, or add and change files inside.
Pack
⌥F5 packs the marked files into a zip, 7z or tar archive.
Archives with a password
AES-256 zip files to send someone, which 7-Zip and WinRAR open on Windows.
Vaults
An encrypted place for private files. Unlock it from the sidebar, and lock it when you’re done.
Old names, readable
Names in an old archive made on Windows can look like gibberish on a Mac. Choose their code page, and Dirnex reads them.
At home on the Mac
Dirnex works with macOS, not around it.
Finder tags
See tags beside names, set them with ⌃T, and find files by tag.
Quick Look and Spotlight
⌘Y shows a file in Quick Look, and Find Files searches with Spotlight.
Git at a glance
The branch in the path bar, and a mark beside every changed file.
A terminal below
The terminal drawer follows the folder you’re in, and the pane follows a cd you type. Or open the folder in Terminal, iTerm or WezTerm.
AppleScript and Shortcuts
Script Dirnex, or use its actions in the Shortcuts app.
The Trash, with Put Back
Move files to the Trash and put them back, as in Finder.
Your colors
Light and dark, row height, your own accent, cursor and mark colors, and colors by file type.
Share and Open With
The share menu, Open With and Services, where you expect them.
In 14 languages
English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, 日本語, 한국어, Nederlands, Polski, Português, Русский, Українська, 简体中文 and 繁體中文.
